Frequently Asked Questions

What does “a Traditional Style Publishing Contract” (TS) mean exactly?

A Traditional Style contract is one where the publisher pays for every expense to bring the book to market, and then marketing beyond that. The TS contract is very similar to what the top publishers use, in that the majority of the royalties go to the publisher as well as control of the rights of the book, usually until some predetermined sales point.
The hope is that the book will become a best seller, the publisher will recoup their investment, and then after that, the author can share in a larger share of the profits. This also encourages the author to get out and market as well whether it is internet marketing or physical marketing such as delivering book signings, attending book trade shows and other such events.

Who gets Traditional Style contracts and why?

The short answer is “books that the publisher thinks will sell.” Please note that we did not say “the best books” because frankly, there are many great books that do not perform well. Another large factor is the bio and enthusiasm of the author. For example, we love publishing books by journalists who not only have writing as their profession but they also know how to build an audience. Blog writers are the new journalists and we welcome their submissions happily. Timeliness and news and events are also factors. If a book is tied into a major new event, we are very interested and can move quickly.

What are my odds?

Historically, we have published about 500 traditional style books in the last 7 years.

What are you looking for?

Our main criteria are the manuscript readiness and quality, the genre, and the author’s background. We do NOT work with proposals. We only offer this program to books that can be brought to readiness within 60 days.
