SBPRA Author Called the ‘Jane Goodall of Sharks’

Ila France Porcher, author of My Sunset Rendezvous, has been dubbed the “Jane Goodall of Sharks” for her work revealing the gentler, intelligent side of sharks, as well as her efforts to protect the animals from the cruel practice of finning, particularly in Polynesia, where the custom has now been successfully banned. Her memoir,  My Sunset Rendezvous, is a story set underwater, in which the main characters are sharks; from 1995 to 2009, the author lived in Tahiti and established a never before achieved intimacy with the reef sharks of  the island. This is a thrilling true story that will also hopefully help to save these sharks from extinction.

Porcher was recently interviewed on a Florida CBS television station where she discussed the fate of sharks in Florida. The author also contributed to filmmaker Shannon Sparks’ documentary on shark intelligence. Both clips can be viewed on her website http://www.theplayoflife.org/

A return visit to her native Canada was also featured in the local newspaper http://www.bclocalnews.com/fraser_valley/hopestandard/entertainment/127469773.html
