After only a few months in distribution, the iPhone app of Michael Hurn’s The I Ching is racking up sales and getting rave reviews; the book is available through the Yi Jing app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

The I Ching is an oracle that has been in use in China for over 5,000 years. People ask the I Ching questions, looking for wisdom, advice and guidance. Hurn’s The I Ching is a simple guide to navigating this ancient philosophy, written by someone who has studied the I Ching for over 30 years. There have been many translations and interpretations of the ideas in The I Ching, but Hurn makes it easy to get answers to your questions. And now those answers are as close as your phone.

Hurn’s book was published by Strategic Book Publishing in late 2010. The author wanted to make his unique access to this philosophy even more readily available in the marketplace. He attended the Beijing International Book Fair, where SBPRA hosted a booth. But turning his work into an electronic version posed challenges.

At the time, I did not think my book would work at all in electronic format because my change to the layout of the I Ching relies on pattern recognition and flicking the pages until the right pattern of lines shows up. I eventually worked out a way to make it work as an ebook. This then lead to the realization that it could also work within the Yi Jing app which had been created by Brian Arnold, who I then approached.
