AUTHOR INTERVIEWED ON NBC: SHARES TRAGEDY IN HOPES OF SAVING OTHERS

The NBC station in Waukesha, Wisconsin, TMJ4, has run a story about the tragic death of Donald Ayer’s daughter, documented in his new book, The Who’s Next Club: A Cosmetic Surgery Disaster. Julie Rubenzer went into a Florida clinic office for what was to be a routine cosmetic surgery procedure and never woke up. Reporter Courtny Gerrish interviewed Ayer for the piece. “Her breathing stopped on the table, her heart stopped,” Ayer told her. In court testimony, witnesses said Julie flat-lined, and the doctor at the clinic waited several minutes before starting chest compressions to bring her back. The doctor doing Julie’s breast augmentation was actually an oral surgeon untrained in the use of powerful anesthetic drugs. Ayer points out, “the anesthesia was directed by the doctor who was not an anesthesiologist, had no certification in anesthesia whatsoever, none.”

Ayer has written the book to expose the dangers of storefront clinics and raise awareness in the hope that “something positive should come out of this.” To see the NBC piece, go to: http://www.todaystmj4.com/features/specialassignment/132825343.html
