Author Inguna Brazil, through the launch of her book I Have to Get it Off My Chest: I Have to Tell the Truth, has raised €1,600 (about $2,071) to benefit St. Hilda’s Services in Athlone, Ireland.
The voluntary organization, which provides comprehensive, quality service to people with mild to profound intellectual disabilities, plays an important role in Inguna’s life as her daughter is enrolled there.
Based on events in her own life, her book addresses the challenges she faced as a Latvian native who emigrated to Ferbane, Ireland some twelve years ago. It is her hope that the book will inspire those who have difficulties with addiction, people with sick children, and families who have had to emigrate themselves.
The money was raised through sales of books and raffle tickets at her recent launch at the Ferbane Heritage Centre, which was attended by the Latvian Ambassador to Ireland, Peteris Elferts.
