Young SBPRA Author Shanaya Fastje Receives Presidential Award

President Barack Obama recently honored 11-year-old El Paso student and Strategic Book Group author Shanaya Fastje with The President’s Volunteer Service Award.

She was also presented the 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Award for outstanding community service activities by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Now 12 years old and in the 11th grade, the home-schooled student is an award-winning, three-time published author and illustrator. Her fourth book is soon to be released. It is a self-help book for children and teens that teaches effective tools and techniques for dealing with bullies.

Shanaya has numerous accomplishments under her belt. The author, poet, public speaker, guitarist, jewelry designer, and the originator of an anti-bullying program titled The Bully in the Mirror, previously won the “2009 Award” from Texas Governor Rick Perry for her first two books and for being A Shining Star. When she was 8 years old, she won the 2008 National Award of Extraordinary Excellence, besting over 3,000 applicants in recognition of her first book, Mystery School.

The third book of her Mystery School series, Crazy Adventures, was recently published by Strategic Book Group. This extraordinary author has a strong message to impart to young people.
